Ford is releasing a new limited-edition Focus RS.
With the state of social media and internet communication, it’s easy for companies to respond directly to consumer concerns and demands. Along those lines, the limited-edition Focus RS was born out of enthusiasts’ conversations about what they love, and would love, to see in the RS. At least that’s how Henry Ford, Ford Performance marketing manager, sees it:
To satisfy strong demand for the ever-popular Focus RS, I’m very excited that we’re bringing this limited-edition vehicle to North America. We have spent a great deal of time listening to our customers, speaking to owners’ club members, reading comments and suggestions on enthusiast websites, and even studying various forum Photoshop renderings.
Off the top, the limited-edition Focus will wear two exclusive colours, Race Red and Nitrous Blue. Ford will limit production to 1,500 units, 500 of which they will sell in Canada. The limited-edition RS is framed by 19-inch premium painted forged alloy wheels and a rear spoiler with RS badging. Ford has also covered the door handles, handbrake, and boost gauge surround in a carbon fibre skin.
Jamal Hameedi is the chief engineer of Ford Performance. He says, “Our new limited-edition Focus RS represents accessible performance at its finest. Improving on the thrilling driving dynamics of the Focus RS is no small task – but our Ford Performance engineers have delivered a drivetrain capable of wringing every drop of performance from the engine”. And he’s not wrong. Although the RS model has always been stylish, it prioritizes function over form.
Fortunately, Focus enthusiasts will be glad to know Ford hasn’t broken the formula. A Quaife® limited slip differential is the biggest mechanical upgrade to the RS. It works by directing limited torque to a front wheel if it’s losing traction. By reducing the disparity in wheel spin, drivers should be able to get the most out of the 2.3L, 350-horsepower EcoBoost engine. In fact, the new limited slip differential will have “knock on” effects for everything packed into the standard RS – features like:
Of course, the unique RS will, continue to provide the flair and comfort that have made the RS so popular. It also features the equipment standard in the RS2 package which includes:
Obviously, the limited-edition RS will appeal to the diehard Ford performance fans. And, Ford rebuilding the Focus next year, it will represent a bit of a sendoff.
