Getting Your Vehicle Summer Ready
As the weather warms up and we finally begin to see the beginning of summer coming, there are a few things that you can do to ensure that when warm weather rolls around you and your vehicle are ready to roll the windows down and take that road trip.
Tire Check – Summer Tires
It’s imperative that as the weather warms up you’re ensuring that you have removed your winter tires. At this point switching to your summer or all-season tires is a great idea. In addition, summer tires can be great as they are specifically designed to be driven during the summer months for optimal driving conditions.
In preparation for getting your vehicle car ready, getting a car wash is a great step to implement. Throughout the wet spring months, saltwater can build up and in many cases be corrosive to the body of your vehicle. Getting regular car washes throughout the summer will ensure that your vehicle is clean and that there is little residue building up over time.
Cleaning the exterior isn’t enough to ensure that your vehicle is ready to roll into summer. Dust and other debris can build up on the seats and dashboard. Get in there with a vacuum and make sure you vacuum all the crevices of the seats and get all the rocks that have built up over the winter months.
Your windshield wipers are working hard against the snow and ice that we see in cold winter months. Usually by the time June comes around your windshield wipers are severely worn out, oftentimes resulting in streaking leaving you unable to see clearly. Extreme weather temperatures can often compromise the integrity effectiveness of your wipers. When this happens it’s an indication that your windshield wipers need to be changed.
Check Your Oil
While on the subject of topping off fluids, it’s also important that you’re changing your oil. You should usually change your oil twice a year or every 5000-7500 kilometres, depending on how often you drive.
Fluid Top Up
It’s a good idea to top off all your fluids when the weather warms up. Oftentimes in the winter, it’s cold and we sometimes forget or neglect to check under the hood for healthy fluid levels. You can easily check the coolant levels yourself and top it up as indicated. While you’re at it take a peek at the brake fluid and see if the reservoir is full. Summer can bring warm winds…which goes hand in hand with blowing dirt and debris. Therefore, make sure that you are also checking the washer solvent and topping it up for optimal sightlines while driving.
