2020 Ford Explorer vs 2020 Ford Edge

February 21st, 2020 by

Today we are going to see how the 2020 Ford Explorer matches up against the 2020 Ford Edge. Both vehicles are very nice, however, by breaking down key variables such as power, technology, and capability, you can decide which SUV best suits your needs.

Power

In terms of max horsepower and torque, the Explorer wins here, due to its sheer size alone being larger. In the Explorer, you’ll find 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft of torque while the Edge has 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft of torque. If one of your main priorities in a new vehicle is to maximize power, then the Explorer is definitely the sure choice here.

Space

Space will also be an important determining factor in which vehicle you choose. The Explorer has more space as it seats 7 with 87.8 cubic feet of space while the Edge only seats 5 with 73.4 cubic feet of cargo space. The Edge has a more streamlined design, which results in it being less bulky and sleeker. This could alter your decision depending on your family size and travel intentions.  If you’re living in a single household or a family of 4, the Edge will definitely fit your needs. If you’re a family of 4 or more and some of the kids have hockey or other sports, you may need more extra room for cargo. Thus making the Explorer a great choice.

Ford Co-Pilot 360

Ford Co-Pilot technologies are integrated into all new models of Ford vehicles, meaning that regardless of if you choose an Explorer or an Edge you can utilize essentially the same standard of technology. A number of features in the Ford Co-Pilot range come with the standard package such as BLIS, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Keeping System, Rear-view Camera, and Auto High- Beam Headlamps. Upgrading will allow you to integrate and leverage the full Ford Co-Pilot system in all its glory. Build and choose the package that you want in your Explorer or Edge.

BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert: Don’t worry about those pesky blind spots that can sometimes leave you with high stress. BLIS technology gives you peace of mind on the road.

Available Adaptive Cruise Control: Experience peak driving with adaptive cruise control equipped with stop-and-go technology which can keep your pace by reducing your speed if traffic slows or stops, then seamlessly adjusting back to the speed you initially set when traffic begins to move again

Pre-Collision Assist With Automatic Emergency Braking: Scans the road ahead, assessing any potential dangers, and applies brakes if needed.

Available Active Park Assist 2.0: seamlessly sneak into that tight parking spot downtown with park. Brake to a stop, shift into neutral and hold down the button while you experience a stress-free park.

Rear View Camera: The standard rearview camera is such a treat. The most ideal for parking lots and when you get stuck sandwiched in front and behind other vehicles.

Available Evasive Steering Assist: This technology provides you with extra support to help you navigate around a vehicle that has abruptly braked or stopped altogether.

Lane-Keeping System: This technology is able to alert you with vibrations in the steering wheel, chimes, and visual warnings when your vehicle starts to drift out of the lane.

Available Voice-Activated 8” Touchscreen with Sirius XM Traffic and Travel Link.

Auto High-Beam Headlamps.

Colourways

Some people aren’t overly concerned about the colour of their vehicle as silver, white, and black respectively are the most popular colours. However, a unique and nongeneric and colour can really make you stand out on the road in the best way.

There are a number of overlapping exterior colours in both vehicles: Agate Black, Iconic Silver, and Oxford White. However, there are a few colours that are not available with both makes. Most notably on the Edge being Dark Persian Green and Desert Gold, my personal favourite within this make. The two distinctive colours available with the Explorer are Rich Copper Metallic, and Silver Spruce. Silver Spruce is my favourite colour available with the Explorer as it resembles an opulent sprucely shade of green.
